A delegate to the First and Second Continental Congresses, he helped draft the Declaration of Independence and ultimately negotiate the the treaty the ended American Revolution. The first president to reside in the newly-built White House in Washington D.C.,(completed in 1800), Adams wrote,"I pray Heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this House and all that shall hereafter inhabit it.
